EcomVue Lens — Extension Privacy Policy

This policy covers the EcomVue Lens Chrome extension specifically. For the main service, see our Privacy Policy.

1. What EcomVue Lens collects

When you click Analyze on a page, the extension reads the following public page data and sends it to the EcomVue API to produce your analysis:

  • •Page URL
  • •Page title, meta description, and Open Graph tags
  • •Heading text (h1–h6)
  • •Structured data / JSON-LD
  • •The first 3,000 characters of visible body text
  • •Image alt attributes (first 20 images)
  • •Link counts (internal / external)
  • •Platform hints (Shopify, WooCommerce, Squarespace, etc.)

2. What EcomVue Lens does NOT collect

  • ✓Form inputs, passwords, or login credentials
  • ✓Cookies or browser storage (localStorage, sessionStorage)
  • ✓Personal information from the page
  • ✓Browsing history or activity on other tabs
  • ✓Anything from a page unless you explicitly click “Analyze”

3. Where your data is sent

  • •Extracted page data is sent only to the EcomVue API (ecomvue.ai).
  • •Analysis results are cached on our server for 24 hours (keyed by the page URL), then deleted.
  • •Your data is never shared with or sold to any third party.

4. Authentication

The extension authenticates with an API key you generate at ecomvue.ai/dashboard/settings. The key is stored in Chrome's encrypted sync storage on your device. On our server the key is stored only as a SHA-256 hash — the raw key is never stored and cannot be recovered after it is shown to you once.

5. Permissions explained

activeTab

Read the current page's content when you click the EcomVue Lens icon or run its keyboard shortcut.

tabs

Read the URL of the active tab so the extension can identify which page you want to analyze. No browsing history is accessed or stored.

scripting

Run the read-only extraction script in the current tab to collect public page metadata (titles, headings, structured data).

storage

Save your API key across browser sessions (encrypted and synced by Chrome).

sidePanel

Display the analysis sidebar.

host_permissions (all URLs)

Allow the extraction script to run on any page you choose to analyze. Without this, the extension could only read pages at the exact moment you click the icon — not when you click "Analyze" inside the sidebar.

The extension never runs on any page until you explicitly click "Analyze." Broad host access is required only so the extraction script can run inside the sidebar workflow, not on page load.
